    Personal Growth Stories

Cross-office Staffing

No matter how many BCG offices there are around the world, we remain one firm. Our response to client needs is met with exceptional talent that may come from one office or many. While most project teams are drawn from local offices, situations periodically arise when client needs can best be met by drawing on talent from BCG offices elsewhere in the world. Such situations generally depend on our clients' business needs and our consultants' willingness to meet those needs. Your expertise, experience, and know-how may provide you the chance to work on a short-term basis as part of an international team in a BCG office in another country.

International Programs for Associates and Consultants

Charting your own career at BCG includes the chance to work for an extended period of time in a BCG office in another country.

Our Associate Abroad and Ambassador Programs are exciting opportunities offered to outstanding performers who have been with the firm for the requisite period of time (9 to 12 months for associates; 12 to 24 months for consultants). If you are eligible for the program, you can nominate the offices in which you would like to work, and we will do our best to find a place for you in one of them.

As an Associate Abroad or Ambassador, you will be fully integrated into your host office, gaining valuable insights into the way business is done in a different environment, developing your international skills, experiencing new cultures, and building strong networks of BCG friends and colleagues from around the world.

Transfers Between Offices

There may come a time when you seek—for personal or business reasons—to transfer from one BCG office to another. This could involve a move to another office in the same country or to an office abroad. In these circumstances, we make every effort to accommodate your needs, consistent with the circumstances in the office to which you want to transfer and, of course, the needs of our clients and the business.

Client Ambassador

Exploring a different working environment may be of interest to you at a certain point in your career. The Client Ambassador program offers you the chance to work at a BCG client. As a Client Ambassador you will understand what it is like "on the other side of the table." Typically, the assignment lasts 9 to 12 months, and it could be inside or outside your home-office country. You can take on a range of roles in client businesses, sometimes including line management positions. At the same time, you maintain your links with your BCG colleagues and continue to draw on BCG for support.

Social Impact Secondments

Another opportunity for broadening your horizons and deepening your knowledge base is to become one of our Social Impact Secondees. BCG has partnered with multiple social-sector organizations around the world. For example, we have worked with the United Nations World Food Programme, Save the Children, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on projects focusing on hunger and global health. We have also participated in the World Economic Forum.

As a Social Impact Secondee, you typically spend 6 to 12 months working in a social-sector organization. The Social Impact Secondment Program allows you to contribute in a meaningful way to vital humanitarian programs. It also enables nonprofit organizations to fill important jobs for which major social-impact programs lack appropriately skilled personnel. You will be able to expand your own perspective and deepen your knowledge base while you use your expertise to lead the way in meeting tangible, critical goals for those most in need. As a Social Impact Secondee, you will maintain your links with BCG, no matter where in the world you are working. And you will return to BCG with a wealth of experience and new insights.

Beyond the Social Impact Secondments Program, BCG will also help you find opportunities to work with other nonprofit organizations on a leave-of-absence basis.
