The Boston Consulting Group Names New Chairman and Managing Director for Greater China

First Senior Partner in China Appointed Worldwide Head of Global Advantage Practice

BEIJING, November 12, 2009—The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has announced new roles for three of its senior leaders in China. Christoph Nettesheim, a senior partner in the firm's Beijing office, has been named Managing Director of BCG Greater China. He takes over the role from David Michael, another Beijing-based senior partner, who has been promoted to Global Leader of BCG's newly formalized Global Advantage (globalization) practice. John Wong, a senior partner in Hong Kong, has assumed the newly created role of  Chairman for Greater China.

Mr. Nettesheim joined the firm's Dusseldorf office in 1993, moved to Berlin in 1999 and then moved to Beijing in 2006. He has extensive experience in a wide range of business and operational challenges facing companies in China and globally. He co-leads BCG's global technology sector and has worked with a broad range of clients on issues such as corporate development and strategy, M&A, HR, innovation and process improvement.

Mr. Nettesheim also has played a key role in developing BCG's innovative thinking in areas such as telecommunications services, intellectual property, technology management, and service-based business models. He has published many articles and reports such as "China's Digital Generations: the 570 Billion Opportunities" (which was featured at a recent edition of Harvard Business Review China' magazine), 'Winning the Localization Game in China and India', and 'From Grey to Green: Energy-Efficient Buildings in China', providing new perspectives and insights for diverse clients.

He holds a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Toulouse Business School.

Mr. Wong joined BCG in 1982 in the United States, where he spent the first 13 years of his career with the firm. He moved to Asia in 1995. He has led numerous projects focusing on competitive strategy, technology evaluation, organizational effectiveness, and corporate development. He has also led several major post-merger integration projects for global companies in healthcare, entertainment, and industrial goods.

In 2004, Consulting magazine named Mr. Wong to its annual list of the "Top 25" most influential consultants. In 2008, he was named to the first "Top 10 Consultants in China" list by China Business and Business Management Review magazine.

He received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemical Engineering with First Class Honors from Imperial College, London University and a Master's of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his MBA from the Harvard Business School prior to joining BCG.

Mr. Michael first joined the firm's Shanghai office in 1992 and has extensive experience in a wide range of business topics. His in-depth knowledge of the business environment in China and Asia, combined with his outstanding communication skills, enables him to help Western business executives to understand the Chinese market and formulate strategies to operate effectively, as well as to provide local Chinese clients with optimal solutions for solving complicated business issues in their home market and beyond.

In 2008, Mr. Michael was awarded as one of the "Top 10 Consultants in China" list by China Business and Business Management Review magazine

Mr. Michael earned a BA in Economics Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University, and an MBA from Stanford University.  Mr. Michael was a Rotary Scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989-1990, during which time he travelled extensively in mainland China.
